Beaumont Park will be the venue for Kauko Nieminen’s Testimonial Meeting which will be staged on Sunday 2nd June with a 4.00pm start-time.
One of the most popular riders in speedway today, Kauko is a great team man and will again captain the Lions this season. “We are so pleased that Kauko has asked for his Testimonial to be held at Leicester. Whenever his name crops up in conversation it is evident that he is held in high regard within the sport by fellow riders, promoters and fans. He is someone who is looked up to and his presence in the team can actually ease talks during a time of team building particularly when they know that they will be riding with Kauko” commented the Lions Co-promoter, Alan Jones.
The three-time winner of Finland’s National Individual Championship first arrived here in 2002 and signed for Workington. Apart from one year spent at Glasgow, Kauko remained at Derwent Park for five seasons during which time he was twice on the winning side in the Premier League Fours’ Final and was one half of a successful pairing that won the Pairs’ Championship. He was soon attracting the attention of a number of Elite League clubs and Lakeside came calling where Kauko has just completed five years, winning a Cup Final medal with the Hammers.
